As a Life Coach my work with clients more often than not comes around to the subject of Procrastination. I have found that, while there are a lot of techniques floating around to battle this subject that each person is different and that what may work for me may not work for someone else. How do you motivate yourself beyond procrastination and into action?

Re: The "P" Word
Sun, April 20, 2008 - 5:47 AMInteresting question...and makes me re-evaluate how I define "procrastinate". As a self-employed musician, I have a lot on my plate (as do all of us, I suspect!) - earning a living as a full-time musician is generally a nickel-n-dime biz: Multiple revenue streams, each generating a what adds up to be (if it all works properly) a livable wage. That in mind, I think procrastination for me and many people with the work-load of self-employment is not so much putting things off (simple task avoidance), but not re-prioritizing for specific & time-sensitive issues. Tax time sneaks up on us, for example, or a particular project that generates less revenue in the short-term gets left n the back burner in favor of one that less i the long-term, but more cash today.
I'll have to give this one some thought. In the meantime, I greatly look forward to others' input.
Thanx for bringing this to the table, Philip.

Re: The "P" Word
Mon, April 21, 2008 - 11:37 AMFor me, yes, there have been times when I'd felt so constrained by the work that I do. But then I recall reading a lot of biography about people in the past and present who've also done the same thing that I'm doing, how they too passed through the fire of life's trials and how they came out winning in the end. That usually does it for me. I get strength from that and keep on walking.
